Our municipality client with some 1,000 Employees is looking for a contractor for 6-months. Objective: The positions assigned to this classification are in the unclassified service and perform a variety of technical and customer service tasks in server/network setup & troubleshooting, user problem resolution, and administrative support. The position serves as a key contact for on-site and remote users with system problems and inquiries in a help desk environment. Installs and supports personal computer, server, network, and web hardware and software, trains users, performs routine data protection and administrative tasks. Essential Job Duties: The following tasks are essential for this position. Incumbents in this classification may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.

  • Provides user support for personal computer, network, e-mail, security, database, and web systems. This may be over the telephone, by remote access, or in person in help desk format. This may include software, hardware, and communications products.
  • Assists users with personal computer applications software such as word processors, spreadsheets, electronic mail, graphics, and specialized functional software for Departmental use.
  • Installs and configures computer, server, network, and web hardware and software products.
  • Creates software applications for client departments, typically involving spreadsheets and macros following client standards and procedures for software development.
  • Adds new users to client systems, providing them with training.
  • Supports the client's anti-virus and anti-spyware efforts by updating software, researching, testing systems, and training users.
  • Develops and updates documentation, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs daily backup operations including setting up backups, reviewing logs, troubleshooting errors, and managing media in the Data Center, client sites, and at the off-site secure storage.
  • Updates and maintains disaster recovery materials. Performs data restores and performs special backups as requested.
  • Works with space allocation and backup in a Storage Area Network ('SAN') environment. Troubleshoots connection and interface issues between the SAN, backup, and network systems.
  • Provides administrative support to the Technical Services group as directed. Typical tasks include but are not limited to: license and contract filing and tracking; purchase order management; research software library management; receipt and invoice tracking and management, and Quality Assurance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Marginal Job Duties:
  • Acts as a backup to Information Systems Analysts.
  • Acts as a backup to the Telecommunications Analyst. Job Requirements:Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Ability: Knowledge of:
  • Industry standard personal computer, server, network, and web hardware and software products.
  • Personal computer software development techniques, including exposure to the use of relational databases and application generation tools.
  • Backup tools and devices including specialized agents, tape drivers & libraries, SAN backup & snapshot technology, and troubleshooting hardware and software.
  • Help Desk troubleshooting techniques for personal computers, servers, printers, network connections and related software, hardware, and cabling. Skill and Ability to:
  • Troubleshoot common backup, personal computer, server, network, and web software and hardware problems.
  • Solve moderately complex backup, personal computer, server, network, and web software and hardware problems.
  • Deal with concurrent customer support situations.
  • Perform end user training.
  • Work in a team environment or independently as needed.
  • Use good time management skills.
  • Act as a first point of phone contact with Technical Services' Help Desk. Project a positive and knowledgeable customer service presence. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Require vision (which may be corrected) to read small print.
  • Require the mobility to stand, stoop, reach and bend. Require mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.
  • Require the ability to stand for long periods.
  • Require the ability to walk long distances.
  • Perform work which involves the frequent lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects which may approximate 50 pounds and may occasionally weigh up to 100 pounds.
