Redhorse Corporation is hiring a Lead Biologist Lead who will work on-site at the customers facility at Edwards AFB, CA to perform services in support of natural resource management and in compliance with the Sikes Act, Endangered Species Act (ESA); other applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations; and related DoD and AF directives (including AFI 32-7064). Primary duties will focus on leading the natural resources/biological team, acting as senior scientist/project manager, and collaborating with the biological staff on field work, research, report writing and QA/QC review. The Lead Biologist will communicate directly with the client, manage work assignments to team members, and provide technical oversight and mentorship. The natural resource management services shall include, but are not limited to, support of the AF Environmental Impact Analysis Program (EIAP); supporting preparation of updates to, and implementation of, installation INRMP; land management actions; fish and wildlife management activity support; hunting/fishing/trapping program support, to include program brochure and map preparation; inventory and monitoring of threatened and endangered species and other species of concern; species at risk habitat improvement projects; invasive species inventory and control, to include nuisance wildlife, feral animal and noxious weed control. Other services in support of natural resource management include restoration and cleanup activities; providing training to natural resources and installation personnel, preparation of course material and natural resources program brochures suitable for installation wide distribution; Findings of No Practicable Alternatives and Biological Assessments; and services in support of ESA Section 7 Consultations and Biological Opinion requirements. Minimum Basic Requirement for Skills, Experience, Education and Credentials include: Master of Science (MS) in a biological science field preferred and 8+ years of relevant experience, however, will consider a Bachelor of Science (BS) in biology, botany, ecology or other biological science undergraduate degree and 10+ years of relevant experience. Must have work history leading and conducting biological fieldwork and natural resources management. Must have experience managing teams and working directly with the client. Must have DoD experience. Must be a Section 10(A)(1)(a) permitted biologist authorized to handle the desert tortoise with a clear understanding of USFWS protocol and familiarity with the Desert Tortoise Recovery Plan or have immediate plans to become a permitted biologist. Upon hiring the applicant must be able to pass a federal background check required prior to gaining access to unclassified government computer workstations. Applicant must provide examples of written biological reports. Experience working in the Mojave Desert ecosystem and the ability to work long days in a wide range of weather conditions. Plant and plant community identification skills for species common to the Mojave Desert or experience in plant identification in other desert ecosystems with an aptitude for collecting habitat quality assessment data and determining habitat trends and changes in species distribution and population. Experience with both chemical and non-chemical pest management planning activities. Experience utilizing camera traps to monitor small mammals, specifically the Mohave ground squirrel. A working knowledge of standard office computer software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access). Must be able to work with minimal supervision; Strong leadership, communication and project management skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Well-developed verbal and technical report writing skills Knowledge and experience with mapping software (ArcGIS). Experience navigating and collecting data using GPS technology must be able to work in extreme heat (weather) Must have a valid driver's license and be able to pass Redhorses Motor Vehicle Records Background Investigation.
