TreePeople is an environmental nonprofit organization that mobilizes individuals, families, communities, philanthropists, and public agencies to work together to create green, resilient communities by providing education on the benefits of planting trees, and capturing the rainwater greening schools, and providing fun environmental educational activities. TreePeople unites with communities to grow a greener, shadier and more water-secure region at homes, neighborhoods, schools and in the local mountains.
We seek an energetic and passionate Regional Educator for the North Los Angeles area to deliver educational experiences to youth, community and family groups looking to get involved. The ideal candidate possesses a sound grasp of ecology and environmental issues, a basic understanding of effective educational methods, cross-cultural sensitivity, and a playful, sense of fun.
This position will work in coordination with TreePeople's Natural Connections Program. TreePeople's Natural Connections Program works to aid underserved communities, experiencing a lack of access to outdoor, natural spaces in the acquisition of tools, resources and information needed for the facilitation of new experiences out in nature.
Center to our mission is environmental education and access for community members of all ages. TreePeople takes complex environmental topics and leads with fun, creativity and inclusivity as we connect millions to trees, plants, water, air and soil.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Deliver intentional, fun and educational experiences to youth, community and family groups looking to get involved.
  
• Deliver weekday and weekend guided tours through natural spaces for young people, community and family groups.
  
• Deliver monthly moonlight walks and family tours for the public on select weekends.
  
• Deliver private tours, as needed.
  
• Provide in-class educational opportunities at schools.
  
• Deliver other educational programs, as needed.
  
• Maintain all equipment, displays and props.
  
• Participate in educator and TreePeople All-Staff gatherings.
  
  REQUIREMENTS:
  
  • 
    
  • Must be committed to environmental sustainability and social justice.
    
  • Must have experience working with young people and adults.
    
  • Demonstrates flexibility and patience.
    
  • Experience and/or education in interpretive/environmental education, and/or performing arts.
    
  • Strong communication skills and comfort speaking to a group or to individuals.
    
  • Organized and detail oriented.
    
  • Able to work outside for hours at a time during tree planting events, tree care events, and canvassing.
    
  • Able to dig holes, lift heavy equipment and planting materials, including 15- gallon shade trees, 5-gallon water buckets, and tools.
    
  • Able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 25 pounds.
    
  • Able to stand and walk for long periods.
    
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
    
  • Driver's license and proof of insurance required.
    
  • Able to drive to schools and other locations.
    
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required.
    
    SALARY DESCRIPTION:
    $20.00 per hour
