Location: California- Remote

This is a really exciting opportunity to join an industry leading energy distribution and storage company as an Senior Data Scientist focusing on Optimization with a mission to accelerating access to sustainable energy!

This company was founded in 2010 and since then has grown through four funding rounds from Series A - D , totalling $161M , leading to the recent acquisition from one of the top energy management companies in the world. Their platform uses prediction and optimization models to automatically respond to the utility signals, and orchestrate carbon-free, battery-stored electricity to power homes. As a Optimization Engineer you will be working on the core optimization capabilities of the company in an agile environment through various optimization algorithms.

They have a strong vision of eventually decentralizing and decarbonizing energy around the world and are now looking expand their network to support the ever-growing need for their successful platform.

Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain the optimization models and software implementation that drives the predictive controls of the platform for managing distributed energy resources.
Benchmark and debug critical issues with the algorithms and software as they arise.
Contribute to improving scalability and reliability of the system.
Work with product owners to develop new features and capabilities.

Qualifications and Experience:
B.S., MS., or Ph.D. in computer science, electrical engineering, operations research, industrial engineering, or related field.
At least 2 years of professional experience solving large optimization problems using linear /non-linear/integer/dynamic/stochastic programming, as well as heuristic approaches.
Deep understanding of algorithms, data structures, performance optimization techniques, relational databases, and software development in a team environment.
Excellent programming skills in Python, Java, C++, or other object-oriented programming language.
Excellent coding to a production standard.
Experience with frameworks such as Redis, Kafka, Celery, Dask is highly preferable.
Experience with optimization modelling languages and solvers.
Experience solving energy related problems such as battery storage optimization, bidding of renewables and storage into energy and ancillary service markets, control and management of virtual power plants.
