Come be a part of our mission!The Future Position Navigation and Timing (FPNT) Research and Development team at Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Staff Research Development Engineer based out of Woodland Hills, CA.What You'll get to Do:
    • Work with a team of navigation and timing experts in a team-based collaborative environment dedicated to advancing the state of the art in navigation.
    • Work in close collaboration with Government Customers to develop advanced navigation and timing technologies, and support transition of those technologies to production.
    • Provide technical leadership for Internal Northrop Grumman R&D projects.
    • Apply your research and development skills to build real-world products and capabilities well beyond purely academic or theoretical.
    • Work on next generation applications like autonomous navigation, distributed sensing, proliferate low earth orbit (P-LEO) space systems, model-based system engineering, cloud-based software as a service, swarming vehicles, artificial intelligence/machine learning, and signal integrity.
    • Design and develop navigation warfare techniques, algorithms, and software to enhance mission success in contested environments.
    • Analyze large quantities of sensor data to uncover, understand, and exploit complex phenomenology.
    • Prototype algorithms in MATLAB, Python, C, and/or C++ and test algorithm performance.
    • Apply ML and AI techniques to improve existing and newly developed algorithms.
    • Collaborate with multiple functional teams to facilitate algorithm implementation in real-time code.
    • Present your ideas to internal and external groups; lead proposal activities; and represent Northrop Grumman at technical conferences and working groups.Basic Qualifications:
      • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related technical discipline with 14 years of related technical experience, or 12 years with Master's Degree, or 9 years with PhD.
      • Demonstrated success in solving complex problems in broad domains of expertise.
      • Demonstrated proficiency leveraging math and statistical techniques to solve difficult technical problems.
      • Demonstrated experience designing, testing, and implementing complex algorithms solutions.
      • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, and/or Python.
      • Comfortable with loosely-defined problems, have a demonstrated ability to think creatively, and draw upon a variety of sources for ideas and solutions.
      • Demonstrated technical leadership of programs and/or proposals in a collaborative environment to propose, plan, estimate, organize, and integrate Systems Engineering activities across multiple engineering disciplines.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including interfacing with Customers.
      • Demonstrated experience in preparing concept papers, briefings, trade studies, white papers, proposals, or similar documents for internal and external stakeholders.
      • Self-motivated, capable of working independently as well as within a team structure.
      • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD clearance.Preferred Qualifications:
        • Experience in any of the following areas is highly desired: data analysis, artificial intelligence/machine learning, signal processing techniques, statistical decision theory, celestial navigation, stellar navigation, vision-aided navigation, signal integrity, navigation sensor fusion.
        • General knowledge of databases, and the optimization of algorithms for database usage.
        • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, and/or Python.
        • Demonstrated knowledge of principles of navigation, including inertial navigation, aided navigation, and Kalman filtering.
        • Demonstrated track record of innovation and accomplishment in the field of navigation and timing.
        • Self-motivated and independently able to develop innovative approaches to diverse technical challenges and see them through to realization.
        • Ability to effectively motivate people to work as an integrated team across sites, companies and cultures.
        • Ability to use Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and concepts to define functions and develop functional and performance requirements.
        • Experience working in an Agile team environment.
        • Experience working in a Research and Development environment.
        • Demonstrated mentorship of others.
        • Active DoD security clearance with current background investigation.Salary Range: 155600 - 233400Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
