Find your future with us.Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS), Space and Launch Division, is seeking a Lead Optical Communications Systems Engineer (Level 4) to support the team in Seal Beach, CA. The-Space and Launch-Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with both commercial and proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space.- Our team-focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers.- Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.Position Overview:The Lead Optical Communications Systems Engineer will be a part of a high-performing team that are immersed in high intensity development projects. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to lead a highly-motivated team that works with domestic or international customers on their latest satellite systems. This role will focus on designing, developing, and delivering state-of-the-art laser communication systems for space-based applications for commercial, civil, milsatcom, and/or national security programs. Project assignments typically span over the completion of the program life cycle, from internal trades, concept studies and system definition, to development, launch, and on-orbit operations and test.Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and architecture development for electro-optical and laser communications systems
  • Design, integrate, and test a variety of electrical and electronic systems in support of Electro-optical and laser communications systems.
  • Develops and validates requirements for unique electro-optical, sensor, laser and other electromagnetic systems and components.
  • Develops and validates-electro-optical requirements for electrical\electronic systems, mechanical systems, and interfaces.
  • Performs trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict performance and to optimize design around complex requirements.
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Support checkout and test of prototype electronics including the ability to debug and troubleshoot electrical and electronics designs.Work Authorization:This position requires an active/current U.S. Security Clearance Tier 5 Investigation (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) by the federal government within the last 5 years or enrollment in a Continuous Evaluation program such that periodic updates are no longer required (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).Basic Qualifications (Required skills/experience):
    • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
    • 1 year or more of experience with electro-optical systems.
    • Experience working with Communication Systems Engineering (RF and/or Optical).Preferred Qualifications (Desired skills/experience):
      • Experience working with Matlab/Simulink and C++.
      • Experience in RF and digital signal processing (DSP).
      • Experience with digital/RF communications hardware and lab equipment.
      • Experience in leading small/medium-sized projects.Typical Education & Experience:Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.Relocation:This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.
