Professional Requirements

Reports to the Manager, Critical Care Unit with direction from the Registered Nurse, this position is responsible for providing high quality individualized basic care activities as identified by the RN, using the components of the nursing process.

  • Performs duties in a manner that provides for the physical, psycho-social and spiritual needs of the patient while performing basic patient care and associated activities. Incorporates cultural and ethnic factors into patient care activities within the limitation of the job, correctly differentiating and reporting normal and abnormal findings with direction from the RN and incorporates the functional/developmental age into these activities for the adolescent through geriatric patient population.
  • Demonstrates sound clinical judgment in the implementation and basic assistant aspects of the multidisciplinary care plan. In conjunction with the patient/family and with the direction of the RN, the CCPT provides care based on the individualized patient care plan. The CCPT observes and reports patient issues/concerns/problems and on an ongoing basis will report findings to the licensed nurse.
  • Contributes to the patient care process by assisting the patient in basic living activities such as bathing, oral care, positioning, linen changes and ambulating.
  • Responds appropriately to concerns regarding patient safety based on the physical environment, equipment and the patient's behavior.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner.   • Performs 12 lead EKGs.
  • Enters physician orders into Paragon order management.
  • Assists in transport of patients to and from the critical care units.
  • Assists with admissions by: setting up room, gathering necessary equipment and supplies, connecting patient to required monitoring devices, and completing patient belonging list.
  • Obtains rhythm strips on all patients every 4 hours.
  • Delivers lab specimens and retrieving equipment when needed.
  • Assists RN and MDs with set up and performance of specific bedside procedures.
  • Performs post mortem care.

Minimum Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of Nursing Assistant or EMT course.

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications: 12 lead ECG experience required. Minimum six months recent experience in an acute care setting. Understanding of medical terminology related to order entry.
