Senior Training Manager

Job Description:

The Training and Development Manager is responsible for improving the productivity of the organization's employees. This person works collaboratively with management and other subject matter experts to assess company-wide developmental needs to identify & implement effective training solutions that prepares employees for future growth & success. Also actively searches, creatively designs and implements effective methods to educate, enhance performance and recognize performance. The position is hands on and will deliver training content using contemporary methods.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position will supervise professional staff

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conducts annual training and development needs assessment
  • Develops training and development programs and objectives
  • Administers spending against the departmental budget by monitoring all training activities and associated costs with the ability to evaluate ROI
  • Obtains and /or develops effective training materials utilizing a variety of media that are kept up to date and proven effective in the construction industry.
  • Develops career-path initiatives
  • Provide input to strategic decisions that may affect the functionality and effectiveness of the training programs
  • Manages, designs, and implements policies and procedures relating to organizational development.
  • Implements meaningful, relevant, employee and manager training and development activities that link to company goals and objectives that meet the needs of managers
  • Coordinates with consultants and outside training providers as needed
  • Researches new training techniques and implements enhancements to existing programs that meet the company's objectives
  • Manages a recordkeeping system that tracks employee training participation & progress
  • Trains and coaches managers, supervisors and others involved in employee development efforts on effective teaching and mentoring techniques.
  • Plans, organizes, facilitates and orders supplies for employee development and training events
  • Develops and maintains organizational communications to such as intranet, social media platforms, bulletin boards and newsletters to training and development events are announced timely to ensure employees have knowledge of training and development events and resources
  • Schedules classes, instructors & attendees in coordination with department heads, operation management and HR.
  • Conducts follow-up studies of all completed training to evaluate and measure results.
  • Modifies programs as needed.
  • Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the organization.
  • Works effectively as a team member with other members of management and the HR staff.

Education and Experience:

  • Master's and/or Bachelor's degree in organizational development, education or business management
  • Ten years related training and development experience overall, including
  • five years of collaborative experience designing and implementing employee development programs including curriculum outlines and course content and
  • ten years relative experience in the construction industry.

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Effective live delivery of course materials via multi-media mechanisms including telephonic and video-conference
  • ability to professionally represent the training function when interacting with management

  • Experience evaluating and researching training options and alternatives.
  • Proficient with learning management systems (LMS) and curriculum/course development tools and software
  • Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential preferred
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential preferred
  • An active learner
  • Possesses excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • A proactive self-starter with the proven ability to prioritize responsibilities and complete work timely and accurately with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem solving, organizational and time management skills
