The Senior Accountant is part of the Finance department and is responsible for supporting various aspects of accounting functions. This position will fully support the Finance department by monitoring general ledger entry activities, managing tasks for the month end close such preparing journal entries, regular GL account adjustments, corrections, and reviewing balance sheet accounts as well as grant income and expense statements to ensure costs are properly coded and classified. The Senior Accountant will lead coordination of various accounting functions in a systematic and organized fashion.


  • Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accounts
  • Maintain the general ledger by making recurring adjustments, monthly journal entries and ordinary journal entries in accordance with GAAP and agency policies and procedures
  • Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments.
  • Responsible for monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts including client accounts
  • Track daily cash balances and prepare journal entries to ensure bank accounts are reconciled in a timely manner
  • Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes.
  • Responsible for completing property exemption forms, follow up and ensure all exemptions are processed and accepted.
  • Prepares transfers between bank accounts, online payments and general banking support
  • Assist with preparation and coordination of month-end close-out, audits and annual tax filing preparations
  • Assist with adjusting journal entries as necessary for government contracts
  • Assist in preparation for contract and grant monitoring audits
  • Ensure A/R, deferred revenue, and subcontractor advance accounts are properly reconciled
  • Performs balance sheet account reconciliations, account analysis, accrual calculations, and other related accounting documents/schedules
  • Submit monthly invoices to funders for reimbursement
  • Serve as back up to Accounts Payable/ Receivable and grant billing functions
  • Provide assistance to the Director of Finance in different functions as needed
  • Other duties as requested by the Finance management team


  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field; education requirements may be substituted with comparable work experience
  • 2-5 years of experience working in a Finance department and understanding accounting standards and principles
  • Experience with QuickBooks or other accounting software required
  • Some experience in non-profit accounting/ services
  • Ability to perform mathematical and data processing tasks rapidly and accurately
  • Ability to understand cost allocations and government grant requirements
  • Strong administrative skills with significant attention to detail
  • Understanding of financial systems and processes
  • Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word and Excel)
  • A highly motivated self-starter, with ability to coordinate multiple projects/tasks at once
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work both individually and as part of a team
  • Possess problem solving and conflict resolution skills and exercise professional judgment
  • Flexible, adaptable, and capable of working in a fast paced, professional environment.
  • Must maintain and execute confidential information using HIPAA standards

  • Combination of field and office environment
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend; occasionally lift or carry up to 35 lbs.
  • On occasion walk or drive to different local sites
  • Will necessitate working in busy and loud environments
  • Will be exposed to elements like cold, heat, dust, noise and odor
  • May need to bend, stoop, twist and sit throughout the day
