Professional Requirements

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Clinical Lab Scientist working in that section, the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs basic technical procedures including processing and testing of specimen within limits specified by State and Federal regulations. In addition, the MLT will answer telephones in the testing areas, look-up results in LIS, order and stock supplies, post QC results, and record temperatures, perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance on equipment, draw blood specimens, and perform other duties assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • AA degree or an equivalent or BS degree or higher in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory sciences
  • Graduated from a medical laboratory technician training program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences or other recognized accrediting program approved by the State Department of Public Health

Preferred Education:

  • N/A

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum one (1) year continuous experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) preferred (during MLT program)
  • Minimum one (1) year recent experience operating automated laboratory analyzers in a hospital, clinic, or commercial laboratory setting (during MLT program)
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • California MLT License
  • CPT1(preferred)
  • Fire Card
  • BLS
