working provisions.Job DescriptionWe are seeking an Assistant Vice
President, Team Leader for our North American Middle Market team
located in our Los Angeles CA, San Francisco CA or Seattle WA
office. -Sompo provides a client-centric service approach by
offering comprehensivemulti-line capabilities to accounts in select
industries including real estate, hospitality, financial
institutions, life sciences, technology, and professional services.
Taking a holistic approach to risk management, the unit offers
commercial property, primary casualty (general liability,
commercial auto, workers' compensation), lead umbrella, and
environmental coverages, as well as parametric natural catastrophe
products to small, middle-market and large accounts across target
industries in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Sompo also offers the
same level of sophisticated services and coverages to
Asian-interest accounts in the U.S. and Mexico.Essential Duties and
Responsibilities: -
- Prioritization and evaluation of new and renewal submissions to
identify those accounts that provide the greatest opportunity for
profit consistent with the business plan and corporate profit
objectives.
- Price and analyze coverage, structure, and exposures on
individual risks.
- Utilize Data Analytics to enhance underwriting efficiencies and
workflow.
- Authorize quotes/binders/invoices as appropriate within own
authority level.
- Supports our focus of building strong customer relationships
balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven
culture. Emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk
identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk
decisions commensurate with the business unit's risk appetite.
- Leading and supporting a team of underwriters.
- Deep underwriting experience across all lines of business,
including: Property, Auto, General Liability, Umbrella, and
Workers' Compensation.
- Exercise proper underwriting pricing and discipline to meet
profitability goals, complying with underwriting guidelines,
systems, and procedures. Responsible for the Profit & Loss
statements (P&L) for LS.
- Expand existing portfolio of business by developing existing
relationships and new prospective clients.
- Attend client/broker meetings, lunches, dinners, and other
social outings as applicable.
- Keeps current on state/territory issues, regulations, and
trends; and
- Basic understanding and ability to use sophisticated pricing
models across various structures: guaranteed cost, captives, SIRs,
deductibles, etc.Desired Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 7 years of underwriting experience
- Experience in working, producing, and underwriting all sizes of
accounts with the large brokerage houses, agents, and specialty
retailers
- Experience in leading and support a team
- Established underwriting, quoting, and binding track record of
profitable business
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Your
communication style is flexible to the situation. You communicate
clearly and with a purpose
- Calm under pressure. Excellent organizational skills,
integrity, and great follow-through on tasks. Comfortable
challenging norms while working collaboratively with colleagues at
all levels of the organization
- Strong sense of accountability, fun and adventure
- Proven track record of building and maintaining strong business
relationships with insureds, agents & brokers.
- A strong customer service bias. Want to get to yes. Known for
your super responsiveness. Ability to say no and preserve the
relationships.
- Exhibits leadership skills
- Team player and collaborative by nature
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including overnight
travel
- Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft suite of productsSalary
Range: $100,000- $180,000 Actual compensation for this role will
depend on several factors including the cost of living associated
with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies,
