Job Description:

The Mission of JWCH Institute is to improve the health status and well-being of under-served segments of the population of Los Angeles Area through the direct provision or coordination of health care, health education, services, and research. Position Description: Under the direct supervision of the Clinic Administrator and Supervisor, the Medical Assistant – Back/Front office is responsible for providing efficient and compassionate patient care within our medical facility. Working closely with healthcare professionals, this position will assist with clinical tasks, patient intake, and maintaining accurate medical records. The Medical Assistant – Back/Front office supports the provision of direct patient care within the regulatory scope of practice. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a passion for delivering high-quality healthcare services. Principal Responsibilities: Performs routine (noninvasive) patient care functions as prescribed by licensed healthcare personnel, following established clinic policies and procedures within the defined scope of education, training, and responsibilities. Assists healthcare providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments. Escorts patients to examination rooms and obtains vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints. Collects and records patient data, including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and peak flow measurements, according to established policies and procedures. Performs lab tests, including finger sticks, after appropriate training and verification of competency. Performs venipuncture and PPD skin test placement; documents result and reports findings to the provider or Registered Nurse. Administers immunizations and medications per provider orders after verification by a licensed healthcare professional. Applies and removes bandages and dressings. Prepares and maintains examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and adequate stocking of supplies. Applies principles of aseptic technique and adheres to infection control policies and procedures. Provides patient education, including information on medications, treatments, follow-up care, and self-management goals under provider direction. Documents patient information, medical history, and treatment plans accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems. Performs routine clerical functions, including answering and routing phone calls and scheduling appointments. Accurately files patient labs, X-rays, EKG results, and other documents after provider review and sign-off. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Participates in staff meetings, quality improvement activities, case conferences, and in-service trainings Adhere to all organizational safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Participate in required safety and compliance trainings and apply learned practices in daily work activities. Identify, report, and help mitigate unsafe conditions, incidents, or hazards in the workplace. Use equipment, tools, and supplies safely and responsibly in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards. Participate in JWCH’s customer service training called AIDET on an annual basis. Demonstrate an understanding of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) to apply in patient encounters or team discussions. Utilize the AIDET communication framework to communicate with patients and team members in a manner that reduces patient anxiety, increases patient compliance, and improves clinical outcomes, Performs other duties and tasks as may be required or assigned. Requirements: High School Diploma or GED Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant school with a current MA certificate Verification of appropriate hours in approved Medical Assistant course to perform venipuncture Current BLS certificate from the American Heart Association Two years’ experience in an ambulatory clinic preferred Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals. Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred Possess a valid CA Driver’s License, clean driving record and able to travel to different sites. *All JWCH, Wesley Health Centers workforce members are recommended to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
