Job Description:
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is currently
hiring for a Public Health Medical Administrator II, CEA within our
Center for Infectious Diseases (CID) Division of Communicable
Disease Control (DCDC). In this role, you will serve as the
Division Chief of the DCDC and provide medical and general
administrative leadership in the control and prevention of
infectious diseases through approximately 500 state, federal, and
contract staff.The CID protects the people in California from the
threat of preventable infectious diseases and assists those living
with an infectious disease in securing prompt and appropriate
access to healthcare, medications, and associated support services.
The DCDC works to promptly identify, prevent, and control
infectious diseases that pose a threat to public health, including
emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, vaccine-preventable
agents, bacterial toxins, bioterrorism, and pandemics.We are
looking for someone that possesses broad and extensive
administrative experience (minimum of five years) as either a
Board-eligible or Board-certified physician in a public health
program, preferably infectious diseases.*This position is eligible

organize, and manage a statewide program for surveillance,
prevention, and control of communicable diseases; directs or
consults on the conduct of special investigations of instances or
epidemics of communicable disease and outbreaks of foodborne
infections and intoxicationsEstablish and transmit medical policy
requirements to staff, as well as apprise the Administration of
important and sensitive public health issues, and offer general
fiscal, administrative, public relations, and legislative guidance
to branch and section level staffServe as management lead for
communicable disease issues as they relate to and impact the
following CDPH Centers/Divisions/Offices: the Administration
Division, the Center for Preparedness and Response, the Office of
Communications, and the Office of Legislative and Governmental
Affairs; collaborate with management from these offices as
communicable disease issues are frequently related to emergency
responses, media inquiries, public communications, legislation, and
public policyRecruit, train, and manage highly specialized medical
and scientific experts in infectious disease, epidemiology,
veterinary medicine, and vector control, assure the quality of
medical and scientific staff, evaluate their performance, and take
or recommend appropriate personnel actionsOversee the coordination
between lab and epidemiologic staff in disease surveillance and
investigations, direct special studies of the incidence and
epidemiology of communicable diseases, and cooperate with research
institutions on studies in the field of communicable disease
controlDirect the efforts of local health officials in the control
and diagnosis of communicable disease surveillance, prevention, and
treatment, and act as the state medical consultant to other CDPH
programs on communicable disease problemsKeeps abreast of the
latest development and research in infectious disease matters and
represent the Department in national scientific communicable
disease forumsAddress interested groups, prepare articles for
publication, prepare reports, and issue bulletins on statewide
communicable disease incidenceOrganize infectious disease workshops
and courses for local health needs, and prepare background and
scientific policy documents for infectious disease epidemiologic
studies and associated policy recommendationsRepresent the
Department in meetings with federal, state, county, and other
governmental and nongovernmental health organizations and
coordinate with other California state agencies, such as the
Department of Food and Agriculture and the Governors Office of
Emergency Services, on their activities related to infectious
diseases, and brokers activities consistent with CDPH policyAt
