Assistant/Associate Project Scientist - Brain Tumor Imaging Laboratory University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: JPF08264 The Department of Radiological Sciences at UCLA is seeking an experienced researcher to join the Brain Tumor Imaging Laboratory as an Assistant or Associate Project Scientist. The position requires a MD or MD PhD degree with a completed residency in radiology, neurology, oncology, or neurosurgery. The incumbent will oversee efforts to develop novel protocols for neuro imaging and data analysis techniques of "RANO" response criteria for brain tumor clinical trials. These efforts will include coordinating investigators and staff across multiple departments. The position will involve coordinating, supervising presurgical planning, and tissue acquisition for image-guided surgical biopsies while creating and implementing new image processing methods for quantitative biomarkers in brain tumors. The incumbent will also be responsible for providing technical training and support including MR physics and data analysis. In addition, the incumbent will be able to use dedicated CAD packages/pipelines for specific processing (e.g. Bash or python pipelines containing FSL, Freesurfer, AFNI, R, MATLAB, Osirix, or SPM scripts). Applicants should have good communication skills with demonstrated experience contributing to grant submissions and publishing manuscripts in high impact journals. The candidate will manage preclinical MRI operations for the Brain Tumor Imaging Laboratory and be responsible for:

  • Clinical trial "RANO" reads for therapeutic response assessment in brain tumor patients.
  • Coordinating and supervising presurgical planning and tissue acquisition for image-guided surgical biopsies.
  • Creating and implementing new image processing methods for quantitative biomarkers in brain tumors.
  • Leading research projects related to primary and metastatic brain tumor imaging.
  • Developing and implementing novel protocols for neuro imaging and data analysis techniques.
  • Assisting investigators with experimental design and data analysis.
  • Providing technical training and support including image processing and data analysis.
  • Mentoring graduate students and supervising their research projects.
  • Attending and preparing for meetings and presentations as needed.
