Research Grant Specialist II - Smidt Heart Institute - Cheng Lab The Institutefor Research on Health Aging conducts multi-disciplinary research thatprioritizes the prevention of cardiovascular disease, neurocognitive disease,and cancer. Our focus is on translating new research discoveries into pragmaticinterventions aimed at promoting healthy aging across diverse populations. Ourapproach involves human physiology, cohort, and clinical trial studies and ourteam includes established experts in population, clinical, translational,basic, and data science. Our ResearchGrant Specialist II will work with Institute investigators to complete and submitfederal and non- federal grants and serves as the liaison between the Instituteleadership and the offices of research administration, human resources,research compliance, accounting and finance, and other research relateddepartments. You will be regarded as the Team Leadfor all pre- and post- NIH and other grant award administrative functions,including management of internal documents, monitoring grant accounts, trackingall expenses, providing grant and financial reconciliations, and generatingresearch-related financial reporting. Ensures compliance with all internalpolicies and procedures, federal and local agency requirements including theFood and Drug Administration (FDA) and local Institutional Review Board.Importantly, the successful candidate will participate in not only teambuilding activities, but also formal and informal training opportunitiesdesigned to promote cross-areas skills development and personal career growthin preparation for further leadership roles. Additional duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform all Pre and Post award administrative functions.
  • Ensuresinternal documents are prepared and routed for signature and processing.
  • Monitors Time& Effort for accurate reporting and performs necessary funding correctionsvia direct cost transfer requests.
  • May assist withresearch participant billing.
  • Ensurescompliance with internal policies and procedures, all federal and localagencies including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and localInstitutional Review Board.
  • Maintainsresearch practices using Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
  • Maintainsstrict patient confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations and applicablelaw.
  • Participates inrequired training and education programs.
  • Collaboratesclosely with Institute investigators to complete and submit federal andnon-federal research grants. May serve as Team Lead for generating or revisingcertain component sections of grant applications.
  • Leads orassists with all pre- and post- NIH grants award administrative functions.
  • Serves as aliaison between Institute leadership and the offices of researchadministration, human resources, research compliance, accounting and finance,and other research related departments.
  • Monitors grantaccounts, tracks all expenses, provides grant and financial reconciliations,and generates research-related financial reporting.
  • Develops andimplements procedures for ensuring research and grants compliance with allinstitutional administrative regulations, procedures, and policies.
  • Identifies newresearch funding opportunities.
  • May negotiatebudgets for clinical studies including clinical trials. EducationalRequirements
    • BA/BS Degreerequired
    • Master's Degree in a relevant field is preferred License/Certification/RegistrationRequirements:
      • Specialtyresearch certification preferred Experience:
        • Three to five(3-5) years minimum experience in administration of research grants, orequivalent combination of education and experience.
        • Ability to workextremely well as part of large or small multi-disciplinary teams.
        • Ability tolearn new technologies and software applications quickly.
