ResponsibilitiesNuclearMedicine Technology is a medical specialty that utilizes radioactive materialto make diagnostic evaluation of the atomic and/or physiologic conditions ofthe human body and to provide therapeutic treatment with unsealed radioactivesources. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is an allied health professionalwho, under the direction of a licensed authorized user or license designee, iscommitted to applying the art and skill of diagnostic evaluation andtherapeutics for all ages through safe and effective use of radionuclides. TheTechnologist will operate multi-modality imaging systems(i.e., PET/CT, SPECT/CT) and as such the Technologist must have appropriatelicenses. As there are multiple dualmodality imaging sites throughout the UCLA Health System the Technologist willbe required to rotate through these locations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: patient interviews,instruction, and care, preparation, quality control, calibration, andadministration of radiopharmaceutical compounds, execution of patient imaging andtherapeutic procedures including computer processing and image enhancement,laboratory testing. He/She applies knowledge of radiation physics and safetyregulations to limit radiation exposure of the general public, patients, fellowworkers, and self to as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). Personal andprofessional development is achieved through participation in medical andtechnical and research in order to enhance the quality of patient care. QualificationsRequired: * ValidCertifications as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist with either the NuclearMedicine Technology Board (NMTCB) or American Registry of RadiologicTechnologist (AART)* ValidCertification as a Certified Radiologic Technologist and/or advancedCertification in CT by the ARRT.* Validlicensure in Nuclear Medicine Technology (CTNM) by the California Department ofPublic Health.* Workingknowledge of the use of scintillation gamma cameras, well counters, radiationsurvey detectors, clinical acquisition and processing computer stations, andcomputer network systems.* Readingskills to understand patient records, forms, technical procedure and policymanuals, and other related documents written in Standard English. * Speakingskill to collect and clearly convey information to people of variouseducational, cultural, and economic backgrounds using tact, diplomacy, correctgrammar and vocabulary.* Interpersonalskills to work as part of a medical team by establishing and maintainingcooperative working relationships with physicians, medical staff, patients, andthe public.* Abilityto set priorities to multiple tasks, shifting demands, deadlines, and a heavyworkload. * Writingskills to maintain accurate, up-to-date medical records and logs.* Abilityto work with self-initiative and minimum supervision in the performance ofnuclear medicine procedures. * Interpersonalskills to relate to patients of all age groups or their families withsensitivity and compassion* Abilityto work rotating shifts and starting hours; ability to work shifts into eveninghours; ability to work beyond scheduled hours if patient care requires.* Ability to staff multiple dual modalityscanners in separate locations on a rotational basis.* A 3-5 year of fulltime working experiencein a Staff Nuclear Medicine position.
