Aerospace is seeking a strategic, innovative, and proactive leader for the System of Systems Engineering department within the Space Systems Architect Division. The Systems Director for System of Systems Engineering (SoSE) and Enterprise Management is responsible for leading and managing Aerospace efforts in support of the SSC Chief Engineer within the Space Systems Integration Office. The work includes defining and implementing SoSE processes, working with Space System Integration Office (SSIO) architects to develop architectures and utilize models of the architectures to manage and evaluate an integrated space systems enterprise for SSC and DoD. This position requires strong collaboration with SSIO/S5 and other groups within SSIO/S, across SSC and with other acquisition, force design and requirements development agencies to align the architecture and be able to achieve an integrated enterprise, including SWAC, SDA and a variety of other organizations. The selected candidate will be expected to provide proactive support to the customer and cultivate productive working relationships in a fast-paced, multi-organizational and multi-contractor environment as well as dealing with uncertainty across complex architecture networks.

Occasional Telecommuting is possible depending on the needs of the customer.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading and managing Aerospace support to the SSC Chief Engineer for SSIO, with emphasis on engineering processes, process execution and implementing enterprise governance.
  • Building and sustaining a diverse and highly capable workforce through hiring, staff performance reviews, career development, and mentoring,
  • Setting organizational and guiding individual goals and direction, monitoring progress, and providing feedback for staff development,
  • Providing proactive support to customers to identify high value work for the sub-division, translating customer requests into technical priorities and planning and managing the team accordingly
  • Recommending budgets, allocating resources, establishing priorities, and ensuring execution to plans and commitments.
  • Partnering with the SSIO architecting branches and aligning and guiding Aerospace resources on enterprise architecting, SoSE and Digital Engineering, enterprise specialty engineering, and all aspects required to engineer and space enterprise cross mission and mission elements to meet warfighter needs
  • Work with integrated systems and future systems architects to implement and utilized a database of systems element architecture models
  • Designing and implementing Digital Engineering processes, products, libraries/databases and supporting infrastructure.
  • Providing technical leadership within teams of Government, Aerospace, support contractors, and other FFRDC personnel to further organizational objectives,
  • Advising on acquisition strategies, standards, and processes effecting architecture and operational integration to ensure successful delivery of warfighting capability across the enterprise and over time
  • Reporting on the organization's activities, progress, and achievements through written and oral reports.
  • Moderate level of travel may be required

    What You Need to be Successful

    Minimum Requirements:
    • Minimum 12 years of relevant professional engineering/scientific experience
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, mathematics or an appropriate technical discipline
    • Strong customer communication skills required to effectively engage customers and build a beneficial relationship
    • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams with agility and collaboration
    • Ability to make time-critical mission architecture decisions with ambiguous or incomplete data
    • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of external trends and can quickly identify the implications to inform or evolve a business strategy
    • Experience in systems of systems engineering or space (or similar) architecture design
    • Work in systems requirements development with an emphasis on architecture development
    • Familiarity with systems engineering and digital engineering processes and techniques
    • Active TS/SCI clearance and SAP eligibility, issued by the U.S. Government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

      • Background operating across multiple security compartments

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.

        $122,952 - $202,011 - $281,070
