Job Description:
J OB SUMMARYPlan, direct and control activities of the area to
accomplish regional and company operational and financial
objectives. Direct the functions of operations for assigned area
Distribution Centers. Provide recommendations on programs and
processes for meeting company and area Distribution Center goals.
Ensure effective staffing, training and employee development for
continuous improvement and efficient area Distribution Center
operations. Maintain regular communications with area and company
leadership and subordinates.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, develop, approve and implement short and long range area
Distribution Center objectives consistent with company goals and
strategic mission and vision. Review analysis of area Distribution
Center operations to determine progress towards area and company
goals and objectives. Direct activities of area to address
opportunities and challenges and approve tactics to address
situation(s).
- Develop, approve, modify and implement area Distribution Center
plans, budgets and activities in accordance with company approved
objectives. Review area Distribution Center staffing plans to
ensure they are consistent and adequate for attainment of area
objectives.
- Oversee the areas operations activities toward the
accomplishment of area Distribution Center objectives. Plan,
develop, and approve operations efforts within assigned geography
through established company and area strategies to ensure
efficient, cost-effective operations and a safe working
environment.
- Ensure operations conform to local, state and federal
governmental regulations.
- Create an atmosphere of trust and teamwork that values the
contributions of all employees in support of a high performance
culture to ensure efficient, cost-effective operations.
- Collaborate with Labor Representatives when situation
necessitates need. Establish a working relationship with
appropriate individuals within the IBT.
- Maintain appropriate communications within and between various
functional areas of responsibility as well as with consumers.
Establish and maintain outstanding customer relations, through
direct or delegated contacts with representative individuals or
groups.
- Lead employees through effective hiring, orientating, training,
mentoring, and coaching. Provide ongoing recognition, feedback and
development, holding employees accountable for success. Identify
and mentor future organizational leaders. Ensure appropriate
resources are provided to direct reports.
- Work well with and demonstrate respect for colleagues at all
levels and consistently contribute to a positive work
environment.
- Attend and actively participate in senior leadership meetings,
offering ideas, insights and recommendations on company policies,
processes, customer service, new business opportunities, and other
topics that improve company results.
- Direct activities that support sales growth initiatives to

- Bachelors degree in business related field or equivalent
combination of education and/or experience.
- Seven (7) years transportation operations experience including
Distribution Center and End of Line terminal operations with a
clear understanding of multiple modes and service within the
transportation/logistics industry.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and five (5) years of
transportation terminal or distribution center management
experience.
- Demonstrated team building skills with the ability to work well
with others and effectively lead people.
- Maintain current knowledge of best practices in
transportation/logistics industry.
- Demonstrated effective and creative problem solving,
quantitative analysis, interpersonal and written and verbal
communication skills. Must be able to clearly convey short and
long-term defined goals.
- Ability to conduct group presentations and provide feedback and
employee development in a constructive manner, as well as
communicate effectively with peers, subordinates, and others.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze business issues, develop a
plan, execute, and achieve business plan goals (cost reduction,
efficiency, sales, marketing, process improvement).
- Proficient understanding of PC and mainframe computer
applications.
- Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to perform
under pressure in an efficient and economical manner without close
supervision meeting agreed upon deadlines.PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters of Business Administration degree.
- Knowledge of equipment and facility maintenance procedures
preferred.
- Familiarity with Master Freight Agreement and local
agreements.WORKING CONDITIONSThis job operates in a professional
office environment indoors. Routinely uses standard office
equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets,
and fax machines.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe position requires the ability
to spend long hours standing while using office equipment and
computers. Occasionally sit. Ability to perform repetitive tasks
such as typing and keying. Continually speaking and hearing, giving
and receiving directions. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling,
carrying 10 lbs of supplies and materials is required.Yellow
