About you

To support our growth, we're looking for a Senior Culinary Director to join our Leadership team. The role is based in the Bay Area, CA.

The Senior Director of Culinary is responsible for directing all food programs according to Food+ goals and priorities in the areas of food quality, safety, cost, presentation and innovation. This position will collaborate on new culinary concept development in partnership with the client, focusing on concept generation, menu development, culinary systems/operations integration, kitchen layout/design, and labor modeling. This position will manage the Bay Area culinary team; developing strategic plans, management systems, program implementation, focusing on quality and innovation in the culinary offering. Menu and recipe development guidance will ensure that offerings meet our clients, and Compass Group business goals.

Aside from working with our chef teams, the Senior Director of Culinary will work in collaboration with our clients Food Service Managers, Purchasing/Vendor Management, Recipe Database Team, Food Quality and Safety Teams, Catering and Front of the House Operations Team, to ensure the highest standards are followed. The Senior Director of Culinary will leverage their strong culinary and strategic skills to partner with key stakeholders (culinary, nutrition, marketing, behavioral science, concept development, procurement, risk management, operations and people approach) to execute company standards, client expectations and enhance user (partner) experience.

Some of the great things you'll do
Inspire the programs multi- and single-unit culinary leaders
Menu Strategy: Lead the central team that collaborates with regional culinary and subject matter experts to develop an holistic menu strategy that delivers on core program values, user experience and delivers efficiencies at scale
Menu Management: Develop a systematized approach to recipe creation, cataloging, menu development, forecasting and reporting
Operationalize: Ensure chefs and operations teams are prepared for successful deployment
Scale: Develop culinary programs and solutions for a multi-unit and complex environment to drive consistency
Analyze: Identify success metrics that align program values, customer experience, operational excellence and financial requirements
Strategic Procurement: Work closely with procurement team to drive menu quality and efficiencies
Lead: Create and develop multi-functional team
Inspire: Instill passion for great food and improving food ecosystem
Educate: Serve as the primary culinary subject matter expert in order to educate team members on the latest trends
Develop: Partner with learning and development and training team to establish training protocols for all areas of culinary, including new menu items and food safety
Collaborate: Work closely with the other subject matter experts - branded concepts, nutrition, sustainability, procurement, marketing and other stakeholders to establish new concepts, recipes, menus
What we look for in the perfect candidate

Culinary Arts degree from a recognized culinary school
10+ years of executive-level culinary management experience
Multi-unit cafe, restaurant, stadium or hotel experience a must
Expert knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, safety, production, sanitation, food cost controls and presentation
Strong experience and in-depth knowledge of menu management systems
Experience guiding strategic procurement at scale
Ability to work in cross-functional, complex and matrixed environments
Ability to present effectively in a group setting to internal teams and our partner
Contract management experience
Strong training and mentoring skills
Analytical and problem solving skills and sound decision making ability based on business needs
Union experience
