Operations Research Manager - CONOPS Development

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Research Manager to join our GA-ASI Mission Payloads and Exploitation (MPEx) Division, directly supporting the CONOPS Development Group. This role will report directly to the Director of CONOPS Development.


  • Work with a team of analysts to analyze new mission spaces in which GA-ASI aircraft and payloads can operate; identify ways GA-ASI aircraft and payload capabilities can be improved to accomplish existing missions; and develop Concepts of Operation for RPAs to be used by customers in the military, the intelligence community, and law enforcement.
  • Identify business opportunities, determine customer requirements, and translate these into organizational plans aligned with MPEx programs and company-wide capture efforts.
  • Work with a team of analysts to design and perform accredited Mission Analysis in support of MPEx programs and GA-ASI marketing efforts.
  • Work collaboratively with company Strategic Development personnel, program managers, and project engineers to achieve company strategic goals.
  • A qualified candidate will be able to brief analytical results to executive management and important customers.
  • Identify and assess operational issues and consult with management to negotiate and develop solutions which meet planning schedules, quality objectives, and policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Serve as liaison between program/project management, project teams, and administrative service departments on matters of high importance.
  • Develop mechanisms for monitoring progress and for problem solving with program managers, project teams, and administrative services departments while developing solutions to meet budget, schedule, quality objectives, and company policies and procedures.

    Job Qualifications:
    • Typically requires a bachelors degree in Business Administration or a related field and fifteen or more years of progressive operations research and planning experience with at least seven of those years managing operations in an engineering or scientific environment. Equivalent professional or military experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
    • Previous experience with (and knowledge of) U.S. Military airborne Electronic Warfare and Air-to-Air Warfare missions is preferred.
    • Previous experience with (and knowledge of) adversarial Surface-to-Air Missile Systems, airborne Electronic Attack (EA) systems, airborne Electronic Protection (EP) systems, airborne Electronic Warfare Support (ESM) systems, and other Aircraft Survivability Equipment (ASE) systems is preferred.
    • Previous experience with (and knowledge of) other U.S. military mission sets, including Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance, Close Air Support, Maritime Surveillance, and Anti-Submarine Warfare missions, is desired.
    • Previous experience with communications networks technologies, including tactical data links, mesh networks, and satellite communications is desired.
    • Familiarity with IPACOM, EUCOM, and CENTCOM, mission sets (and operational environments) is desired.
    • Previous experience with (and knowledge of) GA-ASI aircraft, including MQ-9, and related payload and communications technologies is desired.
    • Must demonstrate expertise in operations research concepts, techniques, and standards.
    • Must be able to organize, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads and staff to meet established milestones.
    • Must be customer focused and possess: (1) the ability to identify issues, analyze and interpret data and develop innovative solutions to a variety of unusually complex issues; (2) strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present findings to a variety of audiences; (3) strong interpersonal skills to influence and guide all levels of employees; and (4) the ability to represent the company and serve as a spokesperson on external projects and/or programs;
    • Must demonstrate detailed and extensive expertise of project management, planning, and scheduling, as well as monitoring and reporting on these activities.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Security Clearance is required.
