Job Description

The Technical Program Manager will be responsible for managing the process, timelines, and budget of the product. Bringing the product team through the beginning of concepting the product, to ensuring successful launch on time, on budget, and with high quality. This individual will lead multiple small to large programs from concept through to launch. The position involves frequent interaction with internal cross-functional team members, executive staff members, partners and vendors, sales account teams and occasionally, end customers. The work scope will include, management of the programs from design, execution, test activities, product introduction, and post product delivery support. The individual will have broad responsibilities in managing moderate sized programs that involve team members from all disciplines. The person must possess the ability to promote collaborative decision-making, provide direction and establish a sense of urgency in the program team. Must be able to objectively evaluate risks to program objectives and be comfortable making difficult decisions, as well as deal with a certain degree of ambiguity and is also capable of making sound business decisions with minimal guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple product development teams through the life cycle process from concept to product delivery.
  • Manage programs involving cross-functional disciplines of Design, Engineering (ME, EE, Software), Operations, Technical Publications, Service, Marketing and Finance.
  • Create, develop and manage program budget and product cost targets.
  • Create, develop and manage staffing requirements and resource plan
  • Create, develop, integrate and manage schedules for program and product delivery.
  • Deliver programs within budget, resource and time constraints established in the program plan.
  • Create risk management list and contingency plans. Decide upon and execute contingency plans, when required.
  • Report program status to multi-tiered audiences composed of team, peers, BU directors and executive staff audiences.
  • Participate in process and business workflow improvements in product life cycle, cost-downs and internal division processes.
  • Programs may involve a mix of partnerships, remote development and support teams, internal development and support teams, board level designs, software only programs.
  • Budgets and Cost Control: Plan for and use resources efficiently, always look for ways to reduce costs, create accurate and realistic budgets, track and adjust budgets, contribute to budget planning.
  • Decision Making/Judgment: Recognize problems and respond, systematically gather information, sort through complex issues, seek input from others, address root cause of issues, make timely and/or difficult decisions, use consensus when possible, and communicate decisions to others.
  • Problem Solving/Analysis: Break down problems into smaller components, understand underlying issues, simplify and process complex issues, understand the difference between critical details and unimportant facts.
  • Product Knowledge: Know and explain product features/benefits, understand/sell the full product line, understand customer's business operations and needs, understand/respond to the competition, apply market knowledge.
  • Teamwork: Meet all team deadlines and responsibilities, listen to others and value opinions, help team leader to meet goals, welcome newcomers and promote a team atmosphere.
  • Project Management: Establish project goals, milestones, and procedures, define roles and responsibilities, acquire project resources, coordinate projects throughout the company, monitor project progress, and manage multiple projects.
  • Strategic Thinking/Management: Create and communicate a long-term vision, balance short and long term goals, keep own and team's work aligned with overall goals, understand the market and can predict change, understand the industry and the competition, create and adjust strategic plan.

    Requirements

    Baseline
    • Bachelor Degree within a product, design, engineering, or business related concentration
    • 3 - 5 years of project and program management experience required. A minimum of two years of experience in a live service, product or SaaS environment.
    • Demonstrated program manager with involvement from initial concept through product delivery.
    • Program management experience should include:
      • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple concurrent programs (usually at different stages of the life cycle)
      • Ability to lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams in a matrix management environment
      • Understanding of program requirements involving internal and external customers and the ability to communicate these to multiple tiered audiences
      • Ability to negotiate program and product tradeoffs
      • Ability to develop program plans with concentration on meeting product performance, development of budgets and schedule goals
      • Demonstration of collaborative team building skills
      • Ability to resolve conflicts in a productive manner
      • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
      • Proven ability to build collaboration among team members
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
