The Director of Social Services is delegated the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out the assigned duties. Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the social service programs of the facility2. Assists in the development, administering, and coordinating of department policies and procedures3. Reviews department policies and procedures, at least annually, and participate in making recommended changes4. Develops and implements policies and procedures for identification of medically related social and emotional needs of the residents5. Develops, implements, and maintains an ongoing quality assurance program for the Social Services department6. Participates in facility surveys made by authorized government agencies as necessary or as may be directed7. Meets with the administration, medical and nursing staff, as well as other related departments in planning Social Services programs and activities8. Evaluates and implements recommendations from established committees as they may pertain to Social Services9. Meets with Social Services designees, on a regular basis, and solicit advice from inter-department supervisors concerning the operation of the social services department, assists in identifying and correcting problems areas, and/or the improvement of services 10. Trains and supervises Social Services designees, counsels and disciplines as needed11. Attends department head meetings, in-services, etc.12. Assists in recruitment, interviewing, and selection of Social Services personnel13. Delegates administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to other Social Services personnel as deemed necessary to perform their assigned duties14. Reviews and checks competence of Social Services personnel and makes necessary adjustments, corrections as required or that may become necessary15. Maintains a productive working relationship with other department supervisors and coordinates Social Services to assure that daily Social Services can be performed without interruption16. Reports known or suspected incidents of fraud and abuse to the Administrator17. Performs administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, reports, abuse investigations, etc., and submitting such to the Administrator as required18. Assists in the review and updating of departmental job descriptions at least annually19. Assumes the authority, responsibility, and accountability of directing the social service department20. Maintains a quality working relationship with medical profession and other health related facilities and organizations21. Reviews and evaluates the department's work force and make recommendations to the Administrator22. Works with the facility's consultant as necessary and implements recommended changes as required23. Delegates authority, responsibility, and accountability to other responsible department personnel Additional Responsibilities & Duties1. Maintains up-to-date knowledge on any and all laws concerning the Social Services department2. Performs other duties as assigned3. Follows organizational and departmental procedures Information ManagementTreats all information and data within the scope of the position with confidentiality and security Risk ManagementCooperates fully in all risk management activities and investigations Physical Demands & Working Conditions1. Works in office areas as well as throughout all floors of the facility2. Moves intermittently during working hours3. Able to handle pen/pencil and telephone receiver4. Uses fingers for keyboard at least two hours a day5. Sitting at least 50% of the time (able to stand while at the computer)6. Walking at least 50% of the time7. Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 25lbs8. Must be able to handle frequent interruptions9. Involved with residents, staff, guests, government agencies, etc. under all conditions and circumstances10. Subject to irate and emotionally upset residents, family members, guardians, etc.11. Be physically able to assist a resident in a reasonable manner during the likely scope of daily work12. Must be able to assist residents out of the facility as needed (down stairs, carrying heavy loads) and in emergency situations13. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and, at times, confrontational people in the facility14. Responds quickly to emergencies in an appropriate manner15. Must follow the dress code policy Qualifications Required Qualifications1. Registered as an Academy of Certified Social Workers preferred2. Membership in good standing in the National Association of Social Workers and Academy of Certified Social Workers, Inc. preferred3. Bachelors degree in Social Work or Bachelors degree in human services, e.g. sociology, rehabilitation counseling, special education, and psychology4. At least one year of experience overseeing the Social Services department at an elderly facility or similar environment5. At least two years of social work experience or in a related field6. Must be knowledgeable of the rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern SNFs7. Knowledge of basic medical terminology8. Demonstrated skills in written and spoken English Additional Requirements1. Must keep all required certificates and/or licenses current2. Must have ability to develop and maintain a good working relationship with residents, staff, guests, family members, and vendors3. Strong English written and communication skills4. Ability to listen and interact with residents and families5. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks, dependable and punctual6. Is able to maintain patience, poise, and dignity in an emergency or crisis situation while executing duties of position7. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents8. Must be supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and team concept9. Must be able to work independently10. Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, a well as be able to handle residents based on whatever maturity level in which they are currently functioning As a pre-condition of employment, we are requiring proof of the COVID-19 vaccine due to the nature of our business and the population we serve.
