  • This role will be primarily responsible for the technical standards, architecture, management, and reliability of our cloud infrastructure, including deployment, automation, and configuration management
  • This is a hands-on role, reporting initially to the CTO.
  • Leadership is vitally important to this role. A good technical leader will be able to "lead from the front" - demonstrating the behaviors and practices that lead to excellence in engineering craft while fostering an open, collaborative engineering culture.
  • Collaboration with, and mentorship of, other cross-functional developers is a significant component of this role. Desire to manage a team (i.e., have people report to you) is a plus but is not required.
  • We are looking for smart people who get things done - strong critical thinkers who are execution-oriented and understand that "shipping is a feature".
  • We value team players who are focused on finding the best answer rather than winning arguments. We have a strict "no jerks allowed" policy.
  • Strong understanding of microservice architectures and data stores (RDS, MongoDB, Dynamo, S3)
  • Experience with containerization and container orchestration systems a plus (docker, k8s, EKS)
  • Experience working in an agile development environment
  • Strong customer focus and empathy - passionate about providing value for internal and external customers
  • Good communication skills - the ability to articulate ideas (and the reasoning behind them) clearly
  • Experience providing technical leadership in a team environment
  • A passion for mentoring others
    • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
    • 7+ years of professional hands-on experience working in large, complex systems environments
    • Ability to code in one or more languages (Python, Ruby, JavaScript, Java, etc.)
    • Solid Unix/Linux expertise (including shell scripting)
    • Strong understanding of networking concepts
    • Deep experience in the AWS ecosystem including but not limited to VPC, IAM, EC2, S3, EBS, Cloudwatch, Lambda, Route53, WAF
    • Hands on experience with Terraform
    • Familiarity and strong understanding of CI/CD concepts and tools such as Git, Jenkins, CircleCI, etc. Responsibilities
      • Collaborate with the CTO and other cross-functional development leadership to drive innovation and improvement to our systems and processes
      • Design, build, manage, and support core AWS infrastructure that enables scaling Glorify to hundreds of thousands of concurrent users
      • Champion best practices for managing infrastructure at scale such as IaC and CaC.
      • Improve operational processes (deployments, releases, upgrades) through tooling and automation (CI/CD) to help maximize development productivity and minimize overhead for developers
      • Design and implement observability and alerting tooling to measure and improve the reliability, latency, availability, and scalability of Glorify's systems
      • Champion high availability for critical systems and systematically root out single points of failure
      • Improve team practices through code reviews and technical design sessions
      • Help define and monitor SLAs and SLOs
      • With the CTO, manage the on-call rotation and incident response processes. Lead incident response for production incidents
      • Perform blameless post-mortems as a mechanism to improve system resiliency in response to incidents. Foster a culture of continuous improvement.
      • Work in a collaborative agile development environment
        • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
        • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
        • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
