Job Description:
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an
affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable
remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as
well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
We have an exciting opportunity for an NDI Engineer to join the
Engineering department at GA-ASI. This position is located in
Poway, CA and will be on the 9/80 work schedule.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides advice and guidance in interpreting and adapting
quality standards and government regulations.
- Collaborates with Engineering Teams, Machinists, and
Manufacturing Staff to ensure nondestructive quality standards are
in place.
- Work on problems of a diverse scope where the evaluation of NDI
data requires a comprehensible review of identifiable factors
delivered to technical audiences
- Evaluate manufacturing design and quality to recommend process
changes and enhancements
- Recommends design, dimensional or manufacturing process changes
to improve products and reduce costs
- Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting,
testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products with
nondestructive test equipment.
- Participates in functional testing and/or inspection of
equipment and systems
- Interprets engineering drawings, troubleshoot errors and
anomalies related to nondestructive testing of products.
- Application of SME level of knowledge on multiple methodologies
in nondestructive testing. Effectively write technical reports
based on factual data and product specifications presented to
non-technical audiences.
- Present to all levels of Management inspection result findings,
metrics, and solutions to extremely complex issues related to high
profile machined parts utilized in company product lines.
- Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and
correction. Implements solutions to complex problems occurring
internally and at vendor facilities.
- Interprets and adapts quality standards and government
regulations.
- Provides limited project direction to other staff members.
- Able to train and mentor both entry and intermediate level
nondestructive test operators to support daily operations.
- May perform material/part inspection, generate nonconformances,
material rejections and corrective action reports, as well as
communicating final acceptance test reports with customers.
- Maintain equipment and generate files for all the
nondestructive test departments assets.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires a bachelor's degree, master's degree or PhD
in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited
institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four
or more years of experience with a bachelor's degree or two or more
years of experience with a master's degree. May substitute
equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Must be able to apply a Subject Matter Expert Level of
Knowledge of Nondestructive in-process and final inspection
methods, techniques, and have and expert level of knowledge of
inspection related computer operations, software, and
applications.
- Must have the analytical ability required to develop creative
solutions to routine and non-routine quality issues and the skills
required to present those solutions to internal and external
stakeholders
- Must have a complete understanding of engineering concepts,
principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad
application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of
principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical
specialties.
- Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly;
apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize,
schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the
appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the
project level to provide solutions to a range of complex
problems.
- Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation,
presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work
independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks
in one engineering area; and, lead a team of less experienced
professional employees on semi-routine tasks.
- ASNT Level 2 or 3 certification in multiple methodologies.
- Able to work extended hours and additional tasks as
required.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- A Professional Engineering License is desirable.DESIRED
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to operate inspection equipment such as: Olympus
omniscan, Matec TTUT thru transmission gantry systems or
equivalent, Olympus 600C eddy current or similar, Dantec laser
shearography equipment, Movitherm Infrared Thermography equipment.
Lorad and northstar radiography devices, Magnetic particle and
penetrant lines.
- Experience related to Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE Level ll,
III), Welding Fabrication, Composites and complex Machined
components is highly preferred.
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
(GD&T) principals and applications associated to complex design
engineering drawings and CAD models is highly preferred.
- Thorough understanding of DoD standard operating procedures and
contracting technical requirements is preferred.
- Root cause analysis skills highly desired.
- ASNT level ll or lll certification in multiple NDT methods PT,
MT, RT, ET, UT, ST, IRT and Acoustic emission is highly
desirable.
