Assistant Athletic Coach Department: Programs & Instruction Reports
To: Head Coach / Site Coordinator Classification: Part-Time
Position Overview The Assistant Coach supports the delivery of
safe, structured, and engaging physical-activity programming for
students on school campuses. This role assists the Head Coach in
implementing daily lesson plans, managing student behavior,
reinforcing social-emotional learning (SEL) principles, and
ensuring compliance with school-site policies and organizational
standards. Assistant Coaches serve as positive role models and help
create an inclusive, respectful, and high-energy environment for
all participants. Key Responsibilities Program & Instructional
Support Assist the Head Coach in leading structured sports, games,
and physical-activity sessions aligned with the daily curriculum.
Support warm-ups, skill drills, game facilitation, and transitions
between activities. Reinforce program rules, routines, and
expectations consistently. Provide encouragement, redirection, and
positive reinforcement to students during activities. Student
Engagement & SEL Support Model respectful communication, teamwork,
and sportsmanship at all times. Use age-appropriate SEL language to
promote self-regulation, cooperation, and conflict resolution.
Support inclusive participation by adapting activities for varying
skill levels and needs. Assist in de-escalating minor conflicts and
refer larger issues to the Head Coach or Site Coordinator. Yard
Management Help maintain active supervision and student safety at
all times. Support line-ups, transitions, attendance counts, and
dismissal procedures. Assist with equipment setup, breakdown, and
proper storage. Monitor student behavior and report incidents
according to protocol. Compliance & Professional Conduct Follow all
school-district policies, site-specific procedures, and
organizational standards. Maintain professional boundaries and
appropriate interactions with students and staff. Attend required
trainings, orientations, and professional-development sessions.
Communicate scheduling conflicts or concerns promptly to
leadership. Required Qualifications Experience working with
children or youth in a school, sports, or recreational setting
(preferred). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability
to follow direction and work collaboratively with a Head Coach and
site staff. Reliable transportation and punctual attendance.
Ability to stand, walk, and actively engage in physical activity
for extended periods. Required Clearances & Certifications (may be
required prior to start) Livescan / fingerprint clearance (at
candidate's expense) TB test (as required by district) CPR & First
Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Mandated reporter
training Must complete a full professional development course. If
successfully passed, a $300 completion credit will be paid after
hire in the first paycheck. Schedule & Work Environment Typically
scheduled during school-day hours (recess, PE, or after-school
programs). May include occasional trainings, meetings, or weekend
events as assigned. Work is performed outdoors and indoors on
active school campuses Performance Expectations Assistant Coaches

and communication Engagement with students and teamwork with staff
Adherence to safety and compliance standards Growth & Advancement
This role may serve as a pathway to increased responsibility,
including Lead Assistant or Head Coach positions, based on
performance, experience, and organizational need.
