Full-Time Assistant Professor of Practice in Dance for Musical Theatre School of Dramatic Arts Musical Theatre Program The USC School of Dramatic Arts (SDA) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Practice in Dance for its musical theatre program beginning August 16, 2023.-- We seek a collaborative, student-centered instructor to join our dynamic undergraduate musical theatre training program dedicated to changing the face of musical theatre for the 21st century and committed to cultivating and educating the multi-hyphenate artist/scholar/creator/innovator. --We will achieve our mission through our newly established relationship with the USC School of Cinematic Arts by cultivating and training the multi-hyphenate artist/scholar/creator/innovator. As such, the Assistant Professor of Practice in Dance will work with the Director of Musical Theatre, the Director of the MFA acting program, and other faculty to continue to build upon the program's many strengths in dance training for the musical theatre artist and continue to further SDA--s interdisciplinary collaboration between professional art schools. SDA has a reputation for collaboration between professional arts school and cutting-edge STEM programs throughout the university.-- SDA provides a rigorous curriculum within a conservatory style environment where students work and collaborate with world-renowned artists and study in a range of opportunities for artistic expression. The school's exceptional students and faculty are creating a confluence of ideas, artistry, and innovation that will prepare the next generation of artists to shape the art form's future in compelling ways. SDA has a roster of world class faculty, professional directors, musical directors, and choreographers. USC faculty are highly regarded in the field and have an unparalleled depth and diversity of experience. Under the faculty's tutelage and through their work with many guest artists, BFA students receive the highest caliber of training and the unique opportunity to learn and perform a wide variety of acclaimed repertoire.-- SDA seeks experienced educators to provide collaboration within the BFA musical theatre dance curriculum and beyond. Knowledge in all genres, techniques, and forms taught within the current curriculum, including but not limited to Hip Hop, Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, Ballroom, Bollywood, African, repertoire, performance, and dance for the camera, devised choreography, and movement for the actor. Candidates must be established artists and educators who are recognized in the field of musical theatre and/or have significant experience teaching at a collegiate level. Candidates will serve a diverse student population, must demonstrate a commitment to improving outcomes for historically under-served populations, and are expected to support the school's diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts. The successful candidate will have:

  • A currency in education and application through continuing education activities and professional development.--
    • A passion for remaining current in musical theatre concerning evolving styles, techniques, and dance pedagogy.
      • An expertise in and comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of musical theatre repertoire.--
        • A commitment to promoting equity for all marginalized groups traditionally not seen in musical theatre. The candidates will have experience with inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogy and innovative teaching techniques that can join our school in building a more just, inclusive, and equitable future in the performing arts.--
          • Flexibility in teaching students who may demonstrate various abilities, from experienced dancers to novice movers.--
          • At the time of hire, a completed degree in musical theatre, dance, a related discipline, or the equivalent professional experience. All candidates should submit:

            • Curriculum vitae, including teaching experience, courses taught and developed, professional performance experience, and choreography.
              • Names and contact information for three current professional references. Minimum Qualifications
                • Completed Bachelor's Degree in any field at the time of hire
                • 3-5 years teaching
                • Computer proficiency (MS Office, Outlook, and Internet) Preferred Qualifications
                  • Master--s Degree in Theatre or Related Field
                  • Greater than 5 years of teaching The USC School of Dramatic Arts, founded in 1945, is recognized internationally as a leader in theatre education.
