TRUTH---Job OverviewThe Controller will plan and execute the
finance and accounting operations of the agency. This person will
streamline the budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting
processes, and produce thorough financial-status reports for
executives to help improve our operational efficiency and aid in
our continued growth. The Controller will flex between higher-level
process implementation and strategy and executing day-to-day
accounting operations in conjunction with our external finance
partners. The position is based in Los Angeles and reports directly
to the Chief Operating Officer.Job Responsibilities
- Accounting: manages Quickbooks, processes payments via
Bill.com, performs tracking via our internal AP board, compiles
expense reports, processes payroll, manages credit card payments,
etc.
- Manages external finance and tax partners.
- Manages the operating budget for the agency.
- Handles the close out of all budgets and ensures we are
tracking against our margins.
- Leads and provides oversight on the credit card processes for
the agency.
- Presents financial information to investors in quarterly board
meetings.
- Maximizes return on financial assets by establishing financial
policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.
- Guides financial decisions and protects assets by establishing,
monitoring, and enforcing internal controls, policies and
procedures.
- Monitors and confirms financial conditions by conducting audits
and providing workpapers and other supporting information to
external auditors.
- Maximizes return and limits risk on cash by minimizing bank
balances and closely monitoring expenses and investments.
- Monitors accounts receivable and bad debt.
- Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting,
analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending
plans.
- Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures;
analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and
summarizing information and key trends of revenue and
expenses.
- Defines and monitors benchmarks for financial performance;
recommends and implements operational best practices.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by
reviewing existing and new legislation, anticipating future
legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial
reports, and advising management on needed actions.
- Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning
employees; following up on work results.Qualifications +
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, CPA preferred
- Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in accounting/finance
- Prior experience as a Controller of a media agency a plus
- Experience in working with multiple legal entities under
different legal umbrellas
- Experience with financial reporting requirements and preparing
Board/investor presentations
- Proven track record of developing and managing financial
processes and standards
- Excellent computer skills, including experience with Quickbooks

- Experience with or the ability to quickly learn bill.com,
Monday, Expensify, Harvest, and Justworks
- Keen ability to track budgeted expenses and analyze
variances
- Financial and analytical skills to provide insights, develop
recommendations, and implement improvements
- Exceptional knowledge of accounting, finance, budgeting, cost
control principles, and GAAP
- Experience in managing payroll, with focus on streamlining
accounting processes
- Exemplary history of financial project management
- Working knowledge of national and local tax regulations and
compliance reporting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to work well with senior executives as well as lead
